Old Coach Road Guest House:

Opened its doors to the first guests during November 1997. The name is derived from the coach road between Barberton and Delgoa Bay, used by transport riders delivering supplies to the many gold prospectors during the gold rush of 1874 - 1898. The route was also made famous by Percy Fitzpatric and his dog Jock. The remains of a portion of this road runs through the property.

Accommodation:

The main house has a private entrance and all rooms have private facilities with either bath or shower. Accommodation at Old coach Road Guest house consists of: Five double rooms, three with shower and two with bath; Two family units each with two bedrooms, bathroom and small lounge; two single rooms with shower.

Old Coach Road Guest house also offers facilities for wheel chairs.: Hiking Trail:

Distance of 4.8km rising from 610m to about 980m at the highest look-out point. Duration: Minimum 3 hours with short rests.

Part 1: Easy walk along the river bed rising 610m to 650m. This is home to "Monty the Python" (Python Sebae - African Rock Python) often seen sunning on the verandah of the old ruin or nearby. Treat with caution and keep a safe distance.

Part 2: Butterfly Alley. The wide specie variety and colors will astound you.

Part 3: Initially steep with a relaxing climb from 650m to 680m into a steep climb with zigzag to 800m where you can relax and enjoy the view towards Barberton. Enjoy the natural rock chair.

Part 4: A good slog, rising to 900m then an easy climb to a rest spot. Along the way you may encounter a fan leafed bulbous plant with pink pincushion flowers.(Boophone distichia) or sore-eye flower. Do not touch, hence the name. Various wild flower and Protea specie can be seen depending on the season. Relax and admire the view towards Baviaanskop.

Part 5: Branch off to the right and climb a short distance to the top of the mountain for a 360 deg. view of the whole Dekaap valley. Be careful of old mineshafts at the peak of the mountain.

Part 6: Fairly steep downward climb where you may encounter Zebra, Baboon, Kudu and Porcupine. You will encounter White Helmit Shrike which will follow you on your downward climb.
