Kruger - food for my soul
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Berg en Dal. Hats off to the friendly and helpfull staff.
My visit to the Kruger Park was long overdue! I always thought Kruger was too far just for a normal weekend, but it didn't seem that far entering at Malelane gate. I will mot definitely make a plan to get there more often, if I only could get accomodation! The peace and quiet were food for my soul, and I was reluctant to leave. We saw so many animals it was absolutely amazing.
My only complaint is that I find it very difficult to get accomodation. I have tried a couple of times over the past years and the park were full every time!

Our stay at Berg-En-Dal 2011
My family and I stayed at Berg-En-Dal for a long weekend at the end of August. This was the first time i had been to this camp as we usually stay further up in the Park. The accomodation was fantastic and so were the facilities - definitely the monies worth. The restuarant however was a bit of a let down. We were seen coming in and sitting down but only 15 minutes later, was our order taken and close to 30 minutes after that was our order only brought to us - 2 milkshakes and a bowl of ice-cream. The staff showed no interest whatsoever. Yet there was a table of foreigners seated next to us and their service was quick, efficient and friendly. Not a very good endorsement for local business i must admit. Other than that, our stay was exceptional and truly enjoyable. Thank You.

THANK YOU
The accommodation was perfect BUT we went for supper at the restaurant, for we were very tired and just arrived before 6 O clock, -and were very dissapointed. The fish I ordered was about 5mm thick and drenched in an oily dough. The "malva pudding" was as dry as old bread. Terrible!! I have thought to send the chef my recipe!! Would not recommend friends to eat there.

AOK
Two suggestions:
1. The menu at each camp was the same. Perhaps offer a nightly special (something different to eat) for those of us who chose to stay several nights in Kruger. Also none of the four camps we visited had the African pudding/custart dessert, even though it was listed on the menu. One camp said that the menu was newe and that all of the items were not yet available....although everything else on the menu WAS available. Since I had looked forward to having the African Marva as one of my high points of my holliday, I was VERY disappointed.
2. Having a nature/animal movie at 6PM is at least something to see/do in the evenings; however, the nights are long when you have to be in the camp by 5:30PM. Perhaps some cultural performance (music, dance) could be provided for an hour after dinner - at an appropriate feee to help pass the evenings. Also at the camp with the train, why not have a historical dinner theatre performance as a part of the dinner that is availavle there...about the early life in/ewstablishment of the park.

We were not really sure what to expect. We stayed 3 nights and could not have hoped for more. We have previously been on safare to several private reserves but found the experience in the NAtional Park to be much more rewarding ans exceptional value for money.

Kruger Park
Berg n Dal the best of all 3 sites we stayed in sadly only one night we were fully informed about all game drives and what all the camp had to offer we were very impressed at the quick check in and info given.

What impressed us the most was the continuous earn at the camp sight which we discovered was at all the sights that was marvelous to have on tap 24/7 Well done.

Would have loved to go on your game drives at all the parks with the guides but sadly was way out of our price bracket. We eventually did a drive at Augrabies falls which was better suited to the pocket at R130 per adult and R65 per child However the game drives at Kruger were R240 per person and we were 9 adults and 3 children as a South African earning SA rands these were aimed at the overseas tourist. Hence all the game we self drove all the tar and dirt roads all the way up to Satara.

Skukuza we definately saw most of the game and bird life was awesome we checked in at the given time of 2 o,clock but were not able to get any sight under a tree with shade on that day it was 40 degrees in the shade naturally and spent the heat of the days there driving in our vehicle naturally with air con .The only negative was camp was very small, packed and the pool was very full and over crowded kids were hot and bothered and had to crowd for a spot in the pool to cool down. Positively the laundry was clean and well equiped to dry and wash any items that got wet with the rain downpour on our second stay at Skukuza.
Lower Sabie game fantastic saw wonderfull and lots of game also very clean neat ablutions no complaints there pool also adequit.

Thanks for the great and organised way the booking and check in was done there were no problems I must admit was scheolical but all went smooth and without hitch.
At all the sights we checked in and found a sight and we asked the question how and if ever does any one check that the people who camp have actually paid booked and checked in. Hopefully everyone does that as we saw a couple of tents overnight with no one there at all and no vehicles? Just a question of concern as we were not once checked or asked while on sight.

Thanks again for everything will gladly book this way again Accomodation Direct Fantastic even for some one as not very good on computers and internet banking felt I had to speak to some one or hear a voice but all was awesome.

Thanks

Great place - staff need to put on a smile!!
We had a great holiday in Kruger and enjoyed the game viewing! Berg en Dal is a great camp and we were relativly happy with our chalet - needs a small upgrade but fine. The pool was fantastic. Found a lot of the staff were very unhelpful and at times quite surly and rude especially the chalet cleaners and shop assistants, been coming to the park since I was a child and don't ever remember this. Perhaps they need a pep talk!! The food in the restaurant especially the buffet need serious attention, no fruit only small bowl of tinned no pastrys very small selection of cereals for R59.00 ...

But on the hole we enjoyed our stay

Awesome Kruger Park
Just to be in the Kruger, close experiences with the animals is such a privelege not to be taken lightly.
Not knowing what is around the next corner and the exilleration of spotting some new bird or animal is simply wonderful, we just cannot get enough of the Kruger experience.

Feedback
The rest camp and bungalow was excellent. I particularly liked the positioning of the braai place, which enables one to braai in private, without the people in the bungalow next door being visible or too close. I was unhappy to only get access to the camp at 2pm, since the gates close at 6pm and we were only able to spend one night, so did not have too much time to drive around.

Very nice camp
Berg en Dal is a good camp in a good game rich area.
The Matjulu waterhole is close by and is a great place to sit and wait for thirsty animals to come and have a drink.
The accomodation is a bit more dated than most of the other camps and could do with a face-lift, but its perfectly functional.
The guide on our sunset drive was Peter, and he was great!

Monkeys
Berg 'n Dal is beautiful and one of my favourites, also very conveniently situated for me coming from the south(Durban). Monkeys!!! Oh, my! I know that nothing can be done about them but they are so annoying in the camp. There were plenty of monkeys in the camp and had one run within a metre of me through the door and steal two boiled eggs and some provita - they are very confident, but very annoying. What daily rate do they pay? Best wishes, Malcolm

A great place
As usual our stay in the Kruger was great. Friendly service, well maintaned and alot of care for the bush and guests.

One suggestion would be interactive activities for kids at the main camps. It would be great to educate them directly about future concervation and a love for the bush. Could even be a story time based activity by a ranger etc

Top Camp for Campers
Berg-en-Dal is still the best camp for tenters and caravaners. Good camping sites on the fence; well-maintained ablution blocks; friendly staff; and a really good Camp Manager in Steven Nel
Highly recommended. Game viewing is not as good as further north, although there is a resident pride of lions, leopard and the other big five, but watch out for the local elephants - very cheeky!

a wonderful camp
We enjoyed our trip. However, the staff were not knowledgeable. They could not identify flowers in the veld or inside the camp. I meant to enquire about what seemed to be bat boxes which had been erected in the camp but forgot. However, i wonder whether the staff would have been able to inform us. however, they tried to be helpful and courteous. the camp is very attractive, as is the pool.

All was good. I am impressed with the new(to me) reservation system. Very professional. A bit sad to see how the park has deteriorated as far as the main gate at Melelane is concerned. The office was untidy and clearly needs a good spring clean. I also thought that the officials were doing me a favour by checking me in. Accommodation was ok except for the shower that did not drain effectively. I have come away with a dose of athletes foot. Just been in the KNP is a privilege for me so I will be back as often as I can.

Thanks, feel free to call at any time should you want any other info.

Beautiful spot - enjoyed the walk around the camp, the swimming pool and sat for hours watching elephant from the balcony.

Wild Dog Experience
What a wonderful experience we had this time in Kruger. Staying for the first time in Berg-en-Dal Camp, was a wonderful experience. Waking up every morning with the howls of hyenas and thousands of birds singing and chirping in the camp, was an absolute awesome experience. Clean and well sustained ablution blocks add to our lovely stay. Lots of animals roamed the bushes around Berg-en-Dal and we did ot have to go very far to see the Big Five...and from so near that we could easily touch the old male lion if he did not warn us that we were too near him!!

But the high light of our holiday in Kruger this time, was the Wild Dog sightings we experienced on two occasions. Wild dogs entertained us by playing around the cars, running in the road in front of the cars and chasing an impala right in front of us! Awesome!!

I would only like our visitors to Kruger to have more respect for the animals and other visitors when at a sighting. Pushing in, talking and hanging out of the car's windows is really notacceptable for persons who are suppose to be "Kruger"-lovers!!

Well done, Berg-en-Dal and well done, Kruger!! We love you and shall go back next year....if we can get accomodation with the thousands of foreign visitors that are being expected.
