The Kruger National Park is South Africa's largest and most renowned game reserve. It is the most biodiverse game reserve on earth with hundreds of variations of plants and wildlife.
Accommodation in the Kruger comes in 2 flavours - five star luxury lodges (or private concessions), and the much more affordable and less assuming accommodation operated by the South African National Parks.
Accommodation in the South African National ParksThis can further be broken down into main restcamps, bushveld camps and satellite camps.
The main restcamps are very commercial and have electricity, a first-aid centre, a shop, barbecue and communal kitchen facilities, a laundromat/laundry tubs, a restaurant and/or self-service cafeteria, public telephones and a petrol station.
Satellite camps have no restaurant or shop and guests must check in at a main restcamp. For this reason each satellite camp is located nearby an associated main restcamp.
Bushveld camps try to offer a more authentic wildlife experience - while the accommodation is luxurious, they are more remote and day visitors cannot access them. One needs to be an overnight guest to have any sort of access.
There are 9 private concessions in the park offering top-end 5 star accommodation. Most are located in the more southern part of the park with the exception of the Outpost located in the North
There are also several private game reserves in the immediate surrounding area also offering 5 star accommodation, namely
Manyeleti Game Reserve
Sabi Sands Game Reserve
Mthethomusha Game Reserve
Timbavati Game Reserve
Kapama Game Reserve.
