Pleasant stay at Letaba, 11-07-31 to 11-08-02
We and our sister and brother-in-law will remember our very pleasant days in two huts on the bank of the river (D32 and 33), and driving around near Letaba as well as from and back to Crocodile Bridge (game, birds, trees).
Our only problem was with the very slow hotplates in the nearest kitchen. Our sister reported it, and also the problem with boiling water at Mlondozi where the attendant said that some burners were faulty. When she mentioned these matters at Letaba, the official welcomed it and said the problems would be attended to.
Many thanks and best wishes
PS We were lucky to see also some bushbuck, klipspringer, steenbok, Sharpe's grysbok, and reedbuck.

LETABA REVIEW
An excellent camp to stay at but something must be done about the monkeys. and, stop the restaurant staff from feeding them!! the monkeys line up each day and are fed by the restaurant staff..... no kidding either.

Feedback Letaba Camp
Amenities in accomodation: lack of plug for kettle/electric frying pan in the kitchen area is cumbersome;cleaning of accomodation not so good; the splashboard behind the handbasin in the bathroom was filthy and showed toothbrushing splashes from many guests before us; bathmat left an appointed area for exchange, was not exchanged and staff did not greet!
We stayed for three nights prior to two nights in Shingwedzi
animal sightings very good, especially elephants

Bushy Kruger
It is the first time when visiting Kruger that we saw that many game on the Phalaborwa - Letaba road. Usually it is only Impala amd elephant.
Arriving at Letaba we set up our camp and just "chilled". That evening the full moon rose above the bush like a magnificent silver ball.

The park is currently very dense after the good rains, and the promise of good winter fodder can be seen all over.We were fortunate enough to see Red Hartbees and "Baster Gemsbok" on the Giriyondo road. This was a first sighting for many of us. Lion, wild dog and leopard are ever so illusive, have not seen any of them in a couple of years.

LETABA REST CAMP
Hi
We loved being in the Kruger, but feel that perhaps the washing up could have been done in the mornings, there weren't enough cooking pots (none actually - we used a frying pan with a lid), it would have been nice to have had a container to store food in the fridge, AND a very good knife disappeared. The staff at Orpen were wonderful, cheerful and friendly, the staff at the other camps didn't measure up at all.
I would go to the Kruger again in a flash, as the Park is wonderful

LETABA REST CAMP
1. THE CHAIRS ARE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE.
2. THE Accommodation booked was For 3 adults and the one bed provided was most uncomfortable plus the bottom bed sheets should be fitted as the one's provided are too small.
3. BATHROOM TOWELS NOT ENOUGH FOR 3 ADULTS FORTUNATELY WE HAD BROUGHT OUR OWN WITH US.
4. Toilet roll was not replaced.

Green
KNP in December is a feast of green, because of all the rain. The highlight of our stay was sitting outside the restaurant at Letaba and watch the thunderstorm approach, and then, because it was raining so heavily, we had to sit there until it stopped raining. We were forced to experience one of the great spectacles of nature and revel in it.

I just love the brass in the rest camp, polished to a sheen!

Birding (my passion) was great at the Letaba area. I have been searching for the Carmine Bee-eater for more than 10 years - and I saw it just outside Letaba.

A memorable experience!!

We just stayed one night. The cottage was well equipped - super to have two bathrooms. Beds were comfy and the air conditioner an absolute win! My only complaint would be that the kitchen knives where very blunt but other than that it was super.

The unit is nice and spacious, must have been fantastic when new. The tiles are however broken and looks dirty. The bathrooms look terrible without curtains and the grouting on the walls are dirty from mop cleaning. Felt as though the unit was dirty, definitely needs a revamp.

Who is the client?
Last year we arrived at Shingwedzi at 12.00, when you were still allowed to book into your bungalow at that time, only to find that cleaning had not yet commenced. It was a very hot day and we just wanted to unpack and catch a breather.
This year however we were told that you can now only book in at 14.00. Again we had a long drive and arrived at Letaba at 12.00. The supervior said that if the bungalow had been cleaned that we were welcome to unpack. Although the beds had been made and the bungalow generally beend cleaned, the duvets on the beds were however dirty and smelly and we had to request that this issue be resolved.
As you now only have to vacate at 10.00 instead of 09.00(which makes no sense as most people are on the road at 06.00) it basically means that we, the tourist has less occupation for our money's worth (20 hours as opposed to 21 hours).
Please ask your clients about the times they would prefer and keep the place clean like in the past.
I cannot answer the question below as i would always recommend the Park as a holiday destination but not if service turns bad.

Phalaborwa entry and Letaba Camp
Upon entering the park, while the staff were exeptionally helpfull, the security people were less than friendly, almost abrasive. A slight attitude problem. Being the first step into the park, this must be looked into.
The bungalow at Letaba - The sheets did not fit the beds. The three beds in the bungalow were all on one side, pushed together in one corner. There was no table on the stoep and no beside lamp, making getting up up at night to go to the bathroom easy. The bungalow was spotlessly clean. The 'self-help' cafeteria next to the restuarant must be looked at. Aesthetically and functionality wise not very pleasing. The TV room next to the shop was dirty and with a stainless steel table in the middle of nowhere and four plastic chairs???? The most heart sore however, was the grass between the bungalows. Letaba, when you think of the camp, you think green, welcoming, children running and playing in front of the bungalows. Whoever is looking after the gardens is getting paid for nothing. The thorn patches are taking over and not much grass to speak of. Jerry Sithole, came to speak to us and to find out if everything was sorted. I found him to be very friendly and willing to help. Th bungalow problem was sorted out within an hour of us reporting it to the office. Jerry followed it up on Saturday.
We have been visiting the park for 40 years on and off. The last time we came 10 years ago, we said not again, yet here we are again and not too much has changed! Will I be going back.... yes.... Will I recommend it....yes with reservation. The roads and veld are in good condition as are the animals. Love our Country, love our Heritage....

unwanted noise
We are absolute addicted to the Kruger National Park but had a very unplesant stay at Letaba CTT4, only beacause of visitors that was allowed to be so noisy at night, and I mean until very late. This is a absolute no no to me and will therefor not book into the larger accommodation again. I do hope that management will look into this, it was my first experience of this kind and a big dissapointment
Otherwise all other things were great.

Disappointing
Our first time in Letaba camp was disappointing. We love Kruger and visit every year from the Cape, but were disappointed in the following:
1. Very noisy, not the usual Kruger atmosphere - more like a seaside camp terrain.
2. Alcohol drinking at the pool in glass bottles although the notice prohibits this.Better control is needed.
3. We saw lost of litter outside the camp gates on the roads(disposable nappy, glass bottles, beer cans)
Very disappointing!
4. The staff member attending the elephant museum could not give us any info regarding elephants eg.numbers in camp ("very many"!) Surely someone working in a info centre should be able to give factual info to visitors?!

Safari Tents
We thought the safari tents were absolutely lovely and a great find. We loved the camping feel with comfort. The only thing which would've made travelling a lot easier was if we did not have to provide our own utensils. The camp was very pretty and had everything else we needed. We really enjoyed our stay. We only wish we had seen a cat, although we know this is luck of the draw. Thank you for a splendid time.

Letaba
The stay in the park was good, however the pricing is equivalent to a 4 star Hotel in RSA which a bungalow hardly can be compared with. The personnel is friendly and very accomadating and the park seems to be in an excellent condition during the rainy season, however it is clear that certain areas has been severly damaged in the Park (on the righthand side when entering from Phalaborwa to Letaba so is other areas as well, north and south of Letaba).

All was good, only 2 negative things
First was the cost of pretty much anything within the park, almost double the price.
And then also that there were no lights at the camping sights. But I do believe that this was to prevent trillions of bugs of storming the camps at night time.
Overall the Park is one of the greatest holiday destinations!

The basic items in the shops are very expensive
Then some of the staff are not very friendly we stopped at the Letaba petrol station to fill up and have the windscreen cleaned the assistant told my husband to wash the window himself whilst he fill up the car? the most friendly and informned staff was at Mopani camp.
At some stages there were a lot of people waiting to be served with only one cash register being attended to what are they going to do in 2010?

Early morning
Probably the only morning we got out of bed this early, but is was definitly worth the effort.
Walking trough the bushes not knowing which animal you will spot and what will happen during your trip, makes it even more exiting.

Camp shop too expensive, but good stay
The park was clean and neat, the bungalow was clean and neat without any atmosphere whatsoever. A built-in radio would have been nice.

The prices in the shop were absolutely exhorbitant! All the bread was stale and hard as rocks! Expensive curios is one thing, but food prices were too expensive.

Our stay, however, was pleasant and comfortable, and we saw plenty of game. We had lunch in one of the restaurants and it was reasonably priced and well prepared.
