This is the ancient place where the mysterious golden rhino was discovered by archaeologists.
Experience the magnificence of the views that unfurl before your eye like rolling post-cards.
The massive sandstone formations jut out from the mopane woodlands and the verdant riverine forests. Baobab trees that seemingly have their roots pointing towards the sky, and reputed to be thousands of years old are a unique feature of Mapungubwe National Park. In the plains you will find elephant, giraffe, white rhino, gemsbok, eland, and many plain animals besides. Lions and leopards roam the plains while hyaenas scavenge at night. Bird life thrives at Mapungubwe National Park, including Meve's (Longtailed) Starling, Tropical Boubou and the Black Eagle and the shy Pel's Fishing Owl.
