Firstly, the night before our arrival, we contacted the owners to ask something and were told that our 7 day booking would have to be shortened to a 3 day booking due to them double booking us ! We eventually sorted that out, only to have the other party arrive on our doorstep on the 3rd day because they had been told that the lodge was flooded ! Very disappointing and unethical. If WE hadn't contacted the owners, we would have had to deal with an extremely irate party who had arrived for their booking!
Secondly, the lodge supposedly caters for 17 - 21 people. We were a party of 8, and ended up throwing away half of our meat because there were inadequate refrigeration facilities for us (a small fridge with a tiny ice box and a bar fridge with even smaller ice box), let alone 17 people ! There was also inadequate cutlery.
The bedding in some of the rooms was filthy and unwashed and in other rooms, non existant !
Lastly, the lodge runs on 1 phase power, and considering that it caters for 17 people, this becomes a problem when you try and put more than one air conditioner on at any given time, or try to use the kettle. We were constantly running to the electricity box because the power kept tripping. In 38 degree weather, we all had to congregate in the kitchen because it was the only place we could all sit with air conditioning.
Although I travel to marloth Park at least 3 times a year, and have never had a problem, My entire party were extremely disappointed with this establishment and will NEVER go there again.
