The Northern Kruger Park region extends north of the Olifants River from the Shingwedzi to the Limpopo rivers. This semi-arid region, covers 7 000 SQ km extends. The area between the Luvuvhu and Limpopo rivers has been handed back to its previous owners, the Makuleke which now run their own as a concession.
The northern section is the driest and least occupied part of the park and it is markedly different from the other areas. The low rainfall and extreme aridity of the Northern Krugers region makes this area less attractive to most common herbivores, but it does provide refuge for rare antelope, like sable, hartebeest, roan antelope, and eland. The northern Kruger is known for the illusive wild dog, because the large predators such as leopard and lion are less common. Check out the Outpost.
