Olifants
Perched atop a hill that overlooks the Olifants river valley, Olifants Camp offer you the ideal platform encroaching on a picturesque valley filled with unspoiled and untamed wildlife. Experience a memorable game drive revealing all the hidden treasures of the bush, including sightings of elephant, big game such as lions. Also expect to see Nile crocodiles lazily basking beside lakes and watering holes; baboons and vervet monkeys socialising in the plains or scrambling about in the trees; and leopard that patiently drag the carcasses of their pray up into trees to avoid the scavenging hyaenas.
Up in the skies above, martial eagles hold watch over the beautiful plains, while hippos keep themselves cool in the watering holes, half-appearing above the water level, with menacing eyes and disgruntled growls. Olifants is noted for two of its birds, the White-fronted Plover and the White-crowned Lapwing, although it plays host to a thriving mass of bird life. By night keep an eye out for the shy owls that are perched in the bushes. With luck, you will be able to see the owls eating their nightly snacks. Watch as king fishers swoop down upon the lakes, extracting fish in their claws. In Olifants expect luxury accommodation in the form of bungalows with beds, en-suite bathrooms and magical views over the Olifants River valley. Guest houses are slightly more comfortable, with en suite facilities, DSTV (satellite TV) and twin beds.
