Orpen rest camp is well known as a grassland getaway, with ubiquitous gaming opportunities as grazing and predator animals make frequent use of the surrounding bushveld. Diverse sections of wildlife habitat and world class accommodation are combined to create a luxurious, one of a kind wildlife experience not soon to be forgotten. Accommodation here is perfectly suited towards guests who enjoy a self catering bushveld experience.
Accommodation at the Orpen Gate rest camp takes place in two-bed bungalows, complete with en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, fridge/freezer combinations and complete selections of cutlery, crockery, and utensils. Six-bed guest cottages make use of air-conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, and fridge/freezer combinations, as well as having their own outside veranda doubling as a lounge / dining area.
Orpen camp activities include guided bush walks and game drives, both of which are supervised and conducted by highly informative and professional field guides. Guests are requested to note that children younger than the age of six are not allowed to accompany them on game drives, and children younger than twelve will be restricted from game walks. Additionally, Timbavati Picnic Site, and Ratel Pan Bird Hide (located about fifty-five and fifty-eight kilometers outside the camp respectively) are available for the exploration of guests who would prefer to stay closer to the camp grounds themselves, while the Bundu Trail is a pre-booked, overnight activity, which must be arranged with the camp up to eleven months in advance.
Camp facilities include shops, laundromat, a filling station, cutlery and plate hampers and a swimming pool.
Drive from Orpen to Satara, guests can spot herds of zebra, wildebeest drinking at the area’s many watering holes, warthog, impala, giraffe, and elephant. Further spotting within the park offers guests the chance to witness lion, cheetah and leopard, as well as an impressive collection of various bird species for the avid watcher.
