Stay at Avuxeni Lodge
What a Great Location. One is 10 min. from the Kruger Park gate, you are 5min. from the shops. The unit is very well furnished and everything works. It is very quiet while still safe and secure. Our only suggestion is a light for the outside braai area.

Luxury on the edge of the Kruger (and golf too!) ................
After a week of travelling and living out of suitcases, our arrival at Avuxeni was time to relax.

Everything that you could possibly want has been thought of in this luxurious home. It is very spacious and extremely comfortable with outstanding facilities including a very well equipped kitchen and laundry.

The setting is superb, offering a view of the golf course whilst retaining a feeling privacy.

Airconditioning, an outdoor shower, fans and a plunge pool offer welcome relief from the African sun; whilst the thatched area of the patio is a great place to enjoy meals or to watch a large variety of wild animals and birds.

The town of Phalaborwa provides more than adequate shopping opportunities so there is no need to bring everything with you. The hotel is worth visiting for lunch or dinner.

Although the golf course was a little dry during our visit (a problem with water pumps that has since been rectified), it is hard to beat for both its challenge and scenery.

This was our second visit to Avuxeni and we will most certainly be back, it is a very special place to stay!

We will be back!
We had a fabulous two week stay at Avuxeni. It is a very comfortable lodge, well-designed and well-equipped - just like being at home. I stayed on my own with my two young children for the first week and felt very safe. Then friends arrived and, even at full capacity, the lodge didn't feel cramped. We made good use of the gas barbeque/braai area - sitting out every night listening to the sounds of nearby hippos. My children loved spending time in the splash pool - as we did when the temperature suddenly rose unexpectedly. There are air con units and fans in all bedrooms. The bathrooms are very spacious and efficient. There is a utility room off the kitchen which houses the dishwasher and washing machine. Outside there is a large clothes drying rack.
The lodge overlooks the fairway on the Hans Merensky Golf Estate. It also is situated by the Cleveland Nature Reserve. You get to see giraffe, impala, warthog, vervet monkeys and baboons very close to the house; not to mention the numerous birdlife. You wake to the sounds of hippos calling to each other or an impala herd eating their way through the bush at the back of the house or troops of monkeys or baboons hurtling across the rooftop.
The benefit of staying in this area is the proximity to Kruger's Phalaborwa Gate as well as to the amenities of town with it’s Woolworths, Pick n' Pay, Spar Supermarkets. If you get tired of cooking, the hotel at the HMGE has several restaurants including a pizza oven. For golf widows, there is a new spa at the hotel. The hotel also has a business suite where we were able to use the internet. There is an airport very close to town which handles flights from a variety of airlines.
We had great sightings in this part of Kruger (cheetah, leopards, hyena, boomslang, several bateleur, herds and herds of buffalo) It was far more exciting than the sightings we made when we spent time down in Southern Kruger. Leaving the lodge early, we managed to get up to Mopani one day and down to Olifants on another day. The restaurant at Letaba rest camp is a fine place to sit for hours watching animals down at the river. Near to Phalaborwa gate is Sable Hide which is also a good spot to sit and watch animals coming to drink and feed.
Prior to our arrival, the owners dealt promptly with my queries on a whole range of issues as well as making suggestions for stop-offs en-route – this was refreshing given that I’ve found at other places, once they have your booking, no more communication takes place.
So I can thoroughly recommend Avuxeni Lodge as a place for families and friends to stay. Just don’t book the weeks when we next want to stay.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience
Avuxeni Lodge is a superb base to enjoy Kruger National park and the surrounding area. The lodge overlooks the golf course and the setting provides a good place to relax and enjoy the scenery. We booked our safaris through the front desk at the hotel and cannot fault the level of service. We will definately return.

Perfect Golfhideaway
We spent a wonderful weekend in this luxurious house on the Hans Merensky Golf Estate. The house is very spacious with beautiful furniture and fittings. We enjoyed the braai area and swimmingpool very much while watching the golfers pass by but still having enough privacy. We would definitely reccomend this to friends and future guests and will also definitely return.
