Cumbersome elephants roll about in the plains, effecting damage as they uproot trees. IN their wake, smaller plain animals such as impala, zebra, buffalo, eland and sable roam about in the clearing made by the elephants. The golden-brown statuesque creatures, lions, may be seen lounging about beneath the trees.
The dense woodlands of mixed trees is a haven for birds, and Punda Maria is a paradise for birds and bird-lovers alike. The calls of wild dogs are often heard to pierce the the air. Some of the other animals that can bee seen to roam the plains like ghostly apparitions in the twilight of the day, include kudu, nyala, buffalo and Sharpe's grysbok. Take a game drive through this wilderness, or take a bush walk with an armed ranger to spot these animals in their natural surroundings. Frequent the water holes to discover a plethora of animals, including the giant hippos that laze about in the water, the vervet monkeys and baboons that hang about, mischievous-looking around the fringes of the water.
A powerful sight is enshrined in the thick hide of the crocodile, with its menacing eyes. Lucky sightings include crocodile taking down their prey with power etched in every movement.
