Arathusa Safari Lodge

Arathusa Safari Lodge lies in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve that forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park. It emcompasses 2,5 million unfenced hectares of South African Bushveld, as pristine today as it was 1000 years ago. The Big Five, and various antelope roam at will - as they have done for centuries.

No fences, tarred roads, traffic or canned entertainment. There's only an open Land Rover traversing dirt tracks, winding among trees, surrounded by a bounty of birds and animals going about their daily lives. Speed limits are imposed only by passing animals! The Sabi Sand Game Reserve offers of the best quality game viewing in the world.

Arathusa Safari Lodge borders to Simbambili Game Lodge, Djuma Bush Lodge and Elephant Plains Game Lodge and is situated 7 km from Mala Mala Main Lodge.

  • Lounge and dinning area

Because a lake is at the heart of Safari Lodge, the five thatched chalets provide a 180 degree view of a great variety of game joining the odd hippo for a drink - giraffe and kudu, zebra and any one of the Big Five - with the flash of kingfishers or the squeak of guinea fowl.

Meal times are another African experience, whether breakfasting alfresco under cool thatch or dining, in the spirit of Africa, around a huge camp fire. You will experience gastronomic delights, accompanied by the best wines.

After dinner Africa and her creatures provide the entertainment - there's none of the human kind - while you quietly sip a night cap. All meals are prepared by our experienced chef who caters for all tastes.

There are 2 game drives everyday. On the very early morning drive you are served refreshments under a thorn tree and on the sunset drive, drinks and snacks. You will view the animals face to face - in their natural habitat. You are accompanied by a ranger who knows the bush like the palm of his hand. His expert knowledge of the fauna and flora makes the experience that much more enriching. A bush walk rounds off the intimate experience that is Arathusa Safari Lodge.

"The lodge and surroundings are beautiful and luxury, the food is excellent and the 2 game drives a day very informative and adventurous in open jeeps. the rangers are very knowledgable. The spa facilities are gorgeous. However, I do have 2 complaints: check out is very stressful, you have the feeling they want you out on the day of departure as soon as possible. at 7.30 when you return from your morning game drive, you'll find the linen changed, beds made etc. for the new guest, whereas check out is until 10:30. I cancelled my spa appointments for that morning because the cleaning ladies started circling my lodge like vultures-not relaxed at all. also my mum was refused a safari walk, because her english wasn't good enough-in case we would get charged by a lion or rhino-she wouldn't understand the commands! Please how difficult can it be?, you either stand still or run for the nearest tree. in the end we got to do the walk with an afrikaans speaking ranger-thanks to the intervention of manager Ashley"
