Mala Mala Private Game Reserve

Mala Mala Private Game Reserve is situated in the north eastern part of South Africa in the province of Mpumalanga, and shares a common border with the Kruger National Park of over 19kms. It is thus part of a conservation gene pool inhabiting 2.5 million hectares of land in the South African lowveld. Mala Mala Game Reserve is 16,000 hectares in size with the Kruger National Park almost 2,000,000 ha. There are no fences between the Kruger Park and MalaMala, with the animals free to roam between the two reserves.

This low lying region contains various habitats, ranging from riverine thicket to open savannah. Historically, malaria mosquitoes and tsetse flies, kept man out of the area, nature consequently flourished without man's disturbance. When malaria prophylaxis were introduced, tsetse flies eliminated and Kruger Park proclaimed as a wildlife preserve, the area subsequently has won world wide acclaim for having the greatest number of animal species in an area, on the African continent. The Sand River flows north to south through the MalaMala Game Reserve for 20 kilometres and is a big draw for herds of game from both Mala Mala and Kruger National Park.

The reserve consists of three camps, namely: The Main Camp at Mala Mala

Situated in the Sabi Sands adjacent to the Kruger National Park with ochre coloured buildings are clustered amid shady trees and manicured lawns overlooking the Sand River. The individually decorated, spacious and comfortable accommodation under traditional thatching, enjoy spectacular Reservationss and are equipped with "his" and "hers" bathrooms, 24 hour temperature control, insect proofing, direct dial telephones, a mini-bar and a mini safe. Despite the comfort offered, MalaMala retains an authentic wildlife safari camp atmosphere, where the attention to detail for which Mala Mala is world famous is obvious.
