Decked out in a series of circles in the midst of gorgeous natural terrain, Satara rest camp’s more-than-200-person accommodation finds itself situated in the middle of one of the Kruger’s most vibrant and diverse areas. Here the evenings come alive with the call and response of nocturnal hyenas, the diverse sounds of birds nesting in the trees, and a world of other soothing ambient noises, as you soak in the atmosphere of a braai with friends and the memory of a good day out in the wild.
Accommodation at Satara is available at a score of tent and caravan sites, all with electricity points, boiling water and electric hotplates. Two and three-bed bungalows are also available, complete with air conditioning, and communal kitchens, as well as fifty-seven further bungalows available with attached kitchens, as well as a luxury bungalow with an open air kitchen, outdoor braai (barbecue), fridge/freezer combination, crockery and cutlery. Five and nine-bedded guest cottages are also available.
Finally the Wells six person guest house, Stanley nine person, and Frankel ten person guest house, all occupy prime positions around the camp, and have been fitted with microwave ovens, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms and limited-channel-access DSTV televisions.
Activities and entertainment at Satara is offered through guided bush walks and game drives, conducted and supervised by a team of informative and trained professional field guides. Guests are requested to note that children younger than the age of six are not allowed to accompany them on game drives, and children younger than twelve will be restricted from game walks. The Sweni Wilderness Trail is a pre-booked, overnight activity, which must be arranged with the camp up to eleven months in advance. Further attractions include the Sweni and Patel Bird Hides, Mananga 4 x 4 Adventure Trail, wildlife films, screened every evening except for Sundays.
The area is particularly popular big cats, as well as rhino, wildebeest, buffalo and elephant populations. The camp’s perimeter sees night time visits from spotted hyena and fruit bat.
