Skukuza Camp Reviews

Skukuza Visit
The animals were everywhere.

The Skukuza camp is in excellent condition with refurbished bungalows. The shop and the cafeteria are excellent.

Pity that the restaurant serves such poor quality food

Our Fabulous Holiday
We had the most fantastic holiday at Skukuza Camp. We celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary staying in the Lion Cottage. The service was exceptional. The food was perfect. Breakfast and dinner was perfect. The entire staff were very friendly and helpful. One lady walked far to show me where the laundry was. Laundry service was a great help. All the camps were very clean. We did not have one bad experience. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Restfull Weekend
Bungalow clean, beds comfy, lots of hot water. Very peaceful - lucky to see so much in a weekend - plus a tortoise and later a big chameleon crossing the road.

We could not find the ablution blocks too easily. Perhaps a newer and clearer map with a key would be more beneficial however the campers shared our ablutions in the bungalow.

Rained at Skukuza so we took the walk at Satara. Maybe we should've been contacted by sms to let us know it was cancelled instead of getting up so early
Rangers were very good.
Didn't see too many animals but did see rhino at close range

skukuza rest camp
We only stayed one night at skukuza but we were deeply impressed. Kruger NP is a gorgeous experience you shouldn't miss. If possible do one of those game drives they are really worth it. The accommodation was above expectations and for us westerners quite unusual. For all those who are thinking of staying at skukuza a little hint: don't walk around without a torch after sun set, it is quite difficult to find ones way.there will be a next time for us and sure enough we will stay longer than one night.

Another enjoyable experience in the Park
We always enjoy our visits to the Park, whether we stay in one of the rest camps or outside and visit for the day. This time was exceptional in that we stayed at Skukuza and saw the big five in only our first day out! Add to that our sighting of cheetah that day too and you can see why I say 'exceptional'. The lion were pretty special as we came across two females lying in the road. We were on an organised night drive from Skukusa and they are worth every cent, believe me! The ranger was able to park right next to them... we were almost within touching distance until they got a little spooked with the camera flashes, but what an experience!
Only one small concern-please look at the attitude of the catering staff at Lower Sabie. Very sullen and unhelpful, especially to foreign guests whom I overheard complaining to each other - and more than one group. It does us no favours as South Africans showing off our heritage to these overseas visitors if it gets spoiled by the actions of a few.
That aside, what an unforgrttable experience, especially for our guest who had never been before!

Skukusa stay
We had à wonderful time.
Only item to improve is the variety of foods at dinner time.
When you stay for a few days you have in the restaurant not too many choices.

Keep also all food at the buffet warm.

As always - Wonderful.
Camp inspection
generally needs to be more obvious ie. broken -beyond repair - benches at river edge (Skukuza) need to be disposed of as very unsightly.

Gumpole railings at river edge lack basic maintaince.

Welcome at reception needs more enthusiam - interest lacking, maybe a camp P.A needed at reception area to field enquiries.

We needed to report a viewing of a badly wounded rhino, two gunshots into it's side superating, & now a bag of bones barely able to move, no interest.

The positioning of cottage and layout was great. The cottage could have been cleaner and had a stale smell of smoke.

hi there
hey it was a good experience we saw lot and lots of Animal we all really enjoy in Skukuza

only the time I was upset about at the reception where we all family member have to prove that we all South African Citizen.

first they have work out the price as foreigner took the money from me I paid then I thought it is too much when
I ask the lady at reception it was kind of rude attitude and then "NO ITS COMPULSORY that every one must carry they ID with other wise we assume that you are not South African" I mean hello who will bother to carry they ID for holiday ???

Happy with the accomodation and facilities, however was disappointed with the restuarant service and limited menue. The majority of the waiters could not speak English to an understandable degree - some foreigners were also having difficulty communicating. As a "proudly South African person" consideration is to be taken of this given that SA will be in the spotlight during the world cup.

Great x-perience
Had a great experience... Ablutions were nice and clean, the only thing is that the camping section is not clearly lined out. You are not sure where you should stand or not.

Will definately be going back!!

Holiday at Kruger Park (December 2009)
Service at the reception were friendly and quick. The bungalows were neat and clean. Service at the Wooden Banana Restaurant were slow but the food were good. The only complaint is that when we arrived there Tuesday the 15th of December at about 6 pm there were no bread available at the shop. Lots of people wanted to buy bread, but nothing was available. When we asked the shop attendant why there were no bread, he was not very helpful and merely said "no bread". The following day being a public holiday we really wondered why they didn't plan properly and in advance because Skukuza is a big camp with lots of people.
We had a good experience, enjoyed the Park very much and will surely be back next year!
Thank you very much!

It is always worth it to travel to the Kruger National Park - it is not always easy to find accommodation on reasonably short notice, but the accommodation is well sorted and we always have a wonderful time. Remember there are small anaimals as well, and there are birds to watch, trees, nature, quietness and everything that you can not enjoy in a city - don't spoil it by allowing to many vehicles to enter the park :-)

Kruger Park southern block
We stayed for 5 days, using Skukuza as our base.

We spent a lot of time off road and saw the big 5 for the first time in 32 years!!

A wonderful trip and good service.

It was very good except because of the strong smelling inside the bungalow. I think they used a substance to treat the wood on the roof. It was really strong and caused me respiratory allergy. I could not breath well and than,it took a week to recover. Despite of that was a great experience. It was the fifth time that we visited there.
