Elephant Whispers is based in Hazyview on the banks of the Sabie River and works in close partnership with Rory & Lindie Hensman of EFAF (Elephants for Africa Forever).

GENERAL INFORMATION

Elephant Whispers is an Elephant Interaction and Safari Venue located on the banks of the Sabi River, next to the Hippo Hollow Hotel on the R40 in Hazyview, Mpumalanga.

Elephant Whispers have four tamed and trained elephant, varying in ages from eight to thirteen years. Lindiwe, the youngest, is Elephant Whispers' much loved female. The younger males are Medwa, Talifa, and Shamwari, who range in age from eleven to thirteen years.

These elephant were rescued from planned culling operations in Game Reserves by Elephants for Africa Forever (EFAF). EFAF are committed to conservation and to excellence in the taming and training of elephant and their Handlers and Guides. Rory and Lindie Hensman's kind and gentle training methods ensure the Elephant Handlers and Elephant work together in total harmony. The domestication and training process is achieved by applying the principles of the well tried and proven bilateral 'ask and reward' system, wherein mutual trust and respect between humans and elephant are honoured.

At Elephant Whispers guests can experience the thrill of being close to these magnificent creatures and witness their intelligence, their compassionate nature and sheer delight interacting with their human counterparts.

Activities

There are various activities on offer for visitors to Elephant Whispers.

The hour long Interaction offers guests the opportunity to meet each elephant and exchange trunk greetings. Guests can touch the elephant's skin; feel the different textures on both sides of their ears and underneath their feet and also offer tasty elephant treats to their hosts. Experienced Elephant Handlers will share their in-depth knowledge of fascinating elephant behaviour.

In addition to interacting with the elephant, guests can saddle-up and enjoy an elephant ride; meandering down shady paths and enjoying the view from a most privileged position.

The early morning and late afternoon Interaction and Safari program offers guests the rare opportunity of waking the elephant in their stables at sunrise and joining in their peaceful evening bed-time routine.

The Ultimate Experience affords six special guests the exclusive opportunity of embarking on an elephant safari and then dining with the elephant at a shady picnic spot.

What to bring

• Comfortable walking shoes
• Light comfortable clothing for day tours, especially during the summer
• A light jacket for the late afternoon and evening winter programmes
• For the early morning and late afternoon programmes in the summertime, it is wise to apply mosquito repellent
• For your comfort it is advisable to wear long trousers and closed shoes when riding the elephant
• Sun Hat

• Camera and plenty of film or memory space

Child Policy

• Children under the strict supervision of a responsible adult are welcome.
• Children under the age of twelve qualify for the children's rates.
• Children age twelve years and over will be charged the full adult rate.
• Children riding the elephant must be accompanied by a parent, or guardian, and will be at the discretion of management.
